Crabapple Pruning Results

Sorry no pictures since the daily harvest went to the chickens and the ducks.

When we moved in there was a sorry looking scraggly crabapple tree. After some heavy handed pruning, thinning, and shaping the results are in.

In 2013 the tree produce a mere 7 irregular crabapples.

In 2014 the tress was half covered in blossoms in the Spring and this Fall over a 10 day window I picked up 72 golf ball sized crabapples. The tree also shows a lot of new growth. There are a lot of new edge branches that grew out out 3-4 feet. On the barren southern side of the tree it sprouted a 7 foot limb with branches of it's own.

I can't wait to see what shows up in 2015 now that it looks more well rounded and is actually producing. I'm also keeping an eye out for another crabapple tree to add to the property to help with pollination of growing orchard.

  1. Found 5 more crabapple under the tree on Nov 12. That brings the total to 77 for 2014.
